The Astronomy Department of Leiden University is a world-renowned astronomical institute, with considerable experience of large international projects from research to formal and informal education. It participates in consortia associated with the VLT, ELT, Hubble, Spitzer, the JWST, Spitzer, Herschel, LOFAR and SKA. It is also the coordinator of the FP7 project EUNAWE: Building on the International Year of Astronomy: Making young children aware of the Universe.
